Frequently
Asked Questions
Everything worth knowing before you choose a handmade British bed or mattress. Trials, delivery, guarantees, finance and care.
Ordering & Payment
How to buy, and how to spread the cost.
How do I place an order, or speak to someone first?
You can order online at any time, or call our team to order by phone and talk through the ranges before you decide. Sales calls are free, and our advisers can help you choose the right size, firmness and frame for your room and budget.
For anything to do with an existing order, email customerservice@thesleepco.com.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major debit and credit cards, PayPal, Klarna and Shop Pay. You can choose your preferred method securely at checkout.
Can I pay monthly or spread the cost with finance?
Yes. We offer finance over longer periods, so you can spread the cost into manageable monthly payments with 0% APR plans available. As an example, a £1,099 purchase can work out at around £183.17 a month over 6 months at 0% APR.
Options include Klarna and Shop Pay Installments, and you apply at checkout. Finance is subject to status and available to UK residents aged 18 and over.
Delivery & Installation
Free in England, with optional installation by our own team.
Is delivery free, and can you install the bed?
Delivery is free in England and handled by our own trained, uniformed team, not an outsourced courier. Installation and assembly are available as an optional service for an additional charge, where our team brings your furniture to the room of your choice, builds it and takes the packaging away.
Addresses outside England are quoted separately, so please get in touch before ordering if you are unsure whether yours is covered.
How long does delivery take?
Because every bed and mattress is handmade to order, lead times vary by product and you will see an estimated delivery time at checkout. We then contact you to arrange a convenient date and provide a delivery slot the day before.
If your room is not ready, we can store your order free of charge for up to 4 weeks.
Can you take away my old bed or mattress?
Yes. Our delivery team can remove and recycle your old bed, mattress or sofa for a small additional charge. Just add it when you place your order so the team arrives prepared on the day.
What happens if my item arrives damaged?
Please inspect your delivery and report any transit damage to us within 24 hours at customerservice@thesleepco.com. We will put it right at no cost to you where the item is faulty, misdescribed or incorrect.
Mattresses
Choosing the right feel, materials and size.
How do I choose the right firmness?
As a general guide based on your main sleeping position:
- Side sleepers: usually a Soft to Medium, to cushion the shoulder and hip.
- Back sleepers: usually Medium, which balances support and contour.
- Front or stomach sleepers: usually Firm, to keep the hips from dipping.
- Heavier bodies: tend to prefer a firmer tension for deeper support.
We make every mattress in Soft, Medium and Firm across our Natural, Latex and Memory ranges, and our advisers can recommend a tension over a free phone call.
What is the difference between the Natural, Latex and Memory ranges?
- Natural: a natural latex comfort layer over individually pocketed springs, for a breathable, responsive feel.
- Latex: give without sinking; cool and bouncy, with the deepest support in the range on higher spring counts.
- Memory: memory foam that moulds slowly to your body for the deepest pressure relief and contouring.
Every range sits on individually pocketed springs, with counts rising from around 1,000 up to 6,405 depending on the model and firmness. More springs generally means more precise support that moves with you rather than in one block.
What sizes do you make, and can you customise?
We make UK standard sizes:
- Single: 90 x 190 cm
- Small Double: 120 x 190 cm
- Double: 135 x 190 cm
- King: 150 x 200 cm
- Super King: 180 x 200 cm
We also make larger and continental options, including European King (160 x 200 cm) and Emperor (200 x 200 cm). Because everything is handmade to order, we can also customise sizes to fit your space, so just contact us with your dimensions.
How much do your mattresses cost?
Mattress prices start from around £579 and rise with size, material and spring count. The Memory range is our most affordable entry point, while the Natural and higher count Latex mattresses sit at the premium end. Finance lets you spread the cost into monthly payments with 0% APR plans available.
Bed Frames
Upholstered, made to order, built to last.
Are your bed frames made to order?
Yes. Our upholstered frames are handmade to order by our team of upholsterers, which is why they carry a 15 year guarantee. It also means each frame goes into production shortly after you order, so please double check your size and options before confirming.
Do the frames come with storage options?
Many of our frames offer storage upgrades such as an ottoman lift or drawers, shown as options on the product page. Choose the configuration that suits your room, and our team can assemble it in place on delivery with our optional installation service.
Will the frame fit my existing mattress?
Our frames are built to standard sizes, so a mattress of the matching size will fit. If you are pairing one of our frames with an existing mattress, match the size exactly (for example King to King) and check the mattress depth suits any storage or headboard height you choose. If you need a bespoke size, we can customise.
Trial, Returns & Cancellations
Time to be sure, and clear terms if plans change.
Do you offer a mattress trial?
Yes. Every mattress comes with a 90 night sleep trial from the date of delivery, so you can judge the comfort and firmness over weeks of real sleep rather than minutes in a showroom. If it is not right, you can arrange a comfort exchange within the trial period.
To qualify, keep the mattress clean and its hygiene packaging intact; a delivery charge applies to the exchange.
Can I return a mattress?
A mattress can be returned within 14 days if it is unopened and unused. Beyond that, it is covered by the 90 night sleep trial for a comfort exchange while the hygiene packaging is intact. For hygiene reasons we cannot accept a used, unpackaged mattress as a standard return.
Can I return a bed frame?
Bed frames are bespoke and made to order, so they cannot be returned unless faulty. If you do return a faulty frame it must be undamaged, unmarked and unstained. Please report any fault or transit damage within 24 hours of delivery.
Can I cancel my order?
You can cancel within 24 hours of placing your order online by emailing customerservice@thesleepco.com, and we will refund to your original payment method within 14 days. After 24 hours we usually cannot cancel, because your bed goes into handmade production straight away.
Warranty & Care
Long guarantees, and simple steps to protect them.
What guarantee comes with my bed?
We give a 15 year guarantee on all bed frames and a 15 year guarantee on all mattresses, covering manufacturing faults in materials and workmanship under normal domestic use. It reflects our confidence in British handcrafting and the materials we use.
How do I look after my mattress?
- Use a breathable mattress protector from day one.
- Rotate head to toe regularly in the first few months, then every couple of months.
- Keep it on a suitable, well supported base.
- Air the room to reduce moisture, and never fold or bend a pocket sprung mattress.
These simple steps keep the mattress performing well and help protect your guarantee.
