What actually is a gel mattress?
Before we show you a single product, here is everything worth knowing about gel sleep, in plain English and without the marketing gloss.
Gel is foam, made smarter
A gel mattress starts with the comfort foam you already know, then infuses it with a cooling gel. That gel takes two common forms: tiny gel beads mixed through the foam, or a gel layer laid across the surface. Both do the same job, they change how the foam handles your body heat.
Ordinary memory foam is famous for hugging your shape, but it traps warmth while it does it. Gel gives the foam more thermal mass, so instead of the heat sitting against your skin, it is drawn into the material and spread away from you.
How gel keeps you cooler
Gel does not run a fridge under your bed. What it does is manage heat far better than solid foam, in three ways.
Absorbs your heat
The gel has a higher heat capacity than plain foam, so it soaks up warmth from your body at the point of contact rather than reflecting it straight back at you.
Spreads it away
Instead of pooling one warm patch under your hips and shoulders, the gel disperses that heat sideways through the layer, so no single spot builds up.
Breathes with springs
In a hybrid like ours, pocket springs sit beneath the gel foam. The open coil structure lets air move through the mattress and carry warmth out as you move.
A straight point, because we would rather you trusted us: gel foam sleeps notably cooler than standard memory foam, but the biggest cooling gains come from pairing it with springs for airflow. That is exactly why every mattress in this range is a gel hybrid, not gel foam alone.
