Almost the same colour
Fabric is dyed in batches. Two rolls of the same cloth, dyed six months apart, are not the same colour. They are close. Close is what you notice every single morning.
This is the one thing a bench bought later cannot fix. Not a returns problem, not a quality problem. A dye lot problem.

This is roughly what our cutter works from. Every panel of your bed nested on a single bolt, 140cm wide, in the colour you just chose. The bench takes the space at the end of the run.
Same roll
Bed and bench panels nest inside one cutting run. Identical dye lot, identical pile direction, identical hand.
Same week
Both pieces move through the workshop together. Same machinist, same tension on the seams, same batch of thread.
One delivery
Two men, one van, one appointment. Ordering later means paying to move a van twice.

The £109 ottoman box on a marketplace cannot tell you which roll it came from. That is the entire difference, and it is the only argument this page needs to make.

Will it actually fit at the foot of your bed?
The most common reason an end-of-bed bench goes back is that it was the wrong length for the bed. Here is the honest arithmetic, so you measure once and stop worrying.

The number people forget
With a King, you need 318cm from the headboard wall to whatever is opposite. That is 210cm of bed, 48cm of bench, and 60cm to walk past without turning sideways. On a Double it is 308cm.
Why it does not block the bed
The Scatter Cushion stands its listed height high. Your mattress top sits at roughly 61 to 66cm on our bases, so the bench finishes 11 to 16cm below it. It reads as a line at the foot of the bed rather than a wall across it.
Frame widths are the external dimensions of our own bed frames, not mattress sizes, because the bench sits against the frame. Every figure in this table is measured, not estimated.

What the Scatter Cushion is not
Saying this plainly costs a few sales and saves every return. It also tells you the rest of the page is true.
What it is
- A scatter cushion made to order, cut, lined, piped and finished by hand in our British workshop.
- Available in every fabric in our range, and in custom fabrics on request.
- Three sizes, 12 inch, 14 inch and 18 inch.
- Best ordered as a set of three or four in mixed sizes and fabrics rather than one on its own.
What it is not
- Not a stock cushion. Nothing is cut until you have chosen a fabric.
- Not a filler cushion. It is made on the same bench, in the same fabrics, as the beds, and priced accordingly.
- Not a reliable colour match from a screen. Screens shift and weaves shift, so send for swatches first.
- Not a firm bolster. It is fibre filled, so it sits soft and needs plumping.
Construction
Four things worth knowing
One clean stretch
No buttoning, no channelling. A plain seat is harder to upholster well because there is nowhere to hide a pull. That is the point.
Rolled, with bolsters
Each end rolls outward into a low scrolled arm. A cylindrical bolster sits in the curve, finished with a contrast button at each cap.
Tapered, splayed
Four turned legs lifting the seat clear of the floor so the line reads light against a heavy bed.
