Built so air can move through it
Layered from the spring unit upwards. Natural fibre takes up moisture as a vapour and lets it go again, so warmth passes through the bed instead of collecting under you. Select a layer.

Three / The fibres
Five fibres, five jobs
Natural fillings are not in here for the romance. Each one does something a synthetic layer does worse.
Temperature
Wool
Takes up moisture as a vapour and releases it again, which is why a wool bed feels warm in January and cool in July. It is also the only filling here that is naturally difficult to set alight.
Airflow
Cotton
Breathable bulk. Cotton keeps air moving through the upholstery rather than trapping it against you the way a closed cell foam does.
Surface
Silk
The finest fibre in the build and the one you feel first. Silk sits nearest the surface and gives the top its softness without adding loft that will flatten inside a year.
Loft
Cashgora
A cashmere and mohair fibre, warmer than wool for its weight, and expensive enough that it rarely appears in mattress upholstery at this price at all.

Horsehair
The structural fibre. Coarse, springy and slow to compress, so the upholstery stays resilient over the years instead of settling into a hollow where you sleep.

Eight / Why we build these
We were making these before it was a category
My family has been making beds since 1968. For most of that time we built them for other people's labels, including some of the best known names in British retail. Natural fibre upholstery was not a marketing position then. It was simply how a good mattress was made, before foam arrived and made everything cheaper and faster.
The Natural range is that same bed, built under our own name. Wool, cotton, silk, cashgora and horsehair, laid by hand over latex and a pocket spring unit, side stitched by hand in three rows. It takes longer, it costs more, and it will outlast anything foam based at the same money.

Nine / Questions
The awkward ones first
You call it natural, but there is latex in it. Is latex natural?
Natural latex is tapped as a liquid from the rubber tree and then cured into a foam. So it is a foam, and it is also a plant material. What it is not is polyurethane, which is a petrochemical product. We say natural latex rather than latex foam because the distinction matters, and we would rather you knew it was in there than found it on the label.
Then what is the difference between this and your Latex range?
The Latex range uses latex as the comfort layer with a simpler upholstery above it. The Natural range uses the same fifty millimetres of latex and adds the five hand layered fibres over the top, which is what changes both the surface feel and the price. If you want the responsive latex character at the lower price, look at the Linden, Alder and Oakridge.
It contains horsehair and silk, so it is not vegan.
Correct. Wool, silk, cashgora and horsehair are all animal fibres. If you need a plant only mattress, our Latex range is the closer fit and we will tell you honestly which components to check. We would rather lose the sale than have you find out after delivery.
Is it certified organic?
No. Organic is a certified term with a defined standard behind it, held by bodies such as the Soil Association and GOTS, and we have not put this range through that process. Calling it organic without the certificate would be misleading, so we do not. What we publish instead is the composition.
How different do the three feels actually feel?
Noticeably different, and the difference is entirely in the spring unit. The upholstery above it is identical across all three, so the surface hand is the same. What changes is how far you travel into the bed before the support takes over: further on the Ashbourne, less on the Cavendish. If you are between two, ring us and tell us what you sleep on now and whether you wake up sore.
Will it feel hot?
This is what natural fibre is genuinely good at. Wool moves moisture away from the skin rather than holding it, cotton lets air through the upholstery, and there is no viscoelastic layer sitting against you retaining heat. If you have overheated on a memory foam bed, that is the mechanism you are escaping.
How long until it arrives?
Fourteen days. Every mattress is built to your order in our own factory, which is why it is not next day. Delivery is by our own teams rather than a third party courier.
