The design
Art Deco
The Art Deco was the first bed I designed that broke from everything we had been making.
Twenty years of upholstered headboards in the family workshop, all rooted in the same heritage vocabulary of buttons, scrolls and wings. The Art Deco was the moment I drew something else. Vertical channelled fluting running the full height of a stepped, soft-shouldered headboard, mirrored down the footboard so the geometry reads the same from either end of the bed. Soft cutouts where the panels meet the rails, planted on four 15cm turned timber corner legs that lift the frame off the floor. Quietly architectural, openly modern, and still upholstered by the same hands that build every other bed in the workshop.

Crafted, not assembled
Every Art Deco is handmade to order in our UK workshop, by the same craftspeople who have supplied Britain's leading bed retailers for over two decades, in a family workshop that has been making furniture since 1968. Solid FSC beech frame. FSC certified timbers. Four 15cm turned timber corner legs.

Made your way
Choose from over 100 premium fabrics across velvets, linens, bouclés and weaves. Order swatches, 50p each, before you commit. The Art Deco is a bedframe-only design, no ottoman or adjustable variant, because the channelled silhouette and the planted leg proportion are part of what makes the design work. The base is yours to choose: a solid platform base as standard for natural-fill mattresses, a sprung platform upgrade for a softer feel beneath, or a slatted frame with slats spaced 3cm apart for foam mattresses where airflow matters. Five sizes, double through emperor, with bespoke sizing on request.

The mattress rests directly on top of the upholstered side rails rather than dropping inside the frame. The rails sit hidden, so the bed reads as one clean unbroken upholstered line.
Step three, explained properly
Five bases. One decision that changes the room.
The base changes the height, the floor line and how much you can store. Non storage sits on legs. Every storage and adjustable base sits flush to the floor. Tap a base to choose it.
Why it takes five weeks
Your bed does not exist yet. That is the point.
Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting for you. Once you order, your frame is cut, upholstered and checked by hand in our British workshop, in your fabric and your size.

Getting it into your room
The headboard is the largest single piece.
- The side rails, base and platform are smaller parts, each packed separately, and our team assembles them in your room.
- If we cannot get your bed into the room on delivery day, you can cancel your order, so you can buy without the worry.
- Tight stairs? Send a photo of your staircase, landing and doorway to sales@thesleepco.com and we will check before we cut.

Before you order
Questions about made to order
Why does it take five weeks?
Your bed is built after you order it, in your fabric and your size. The 25 working days cover cutting, framing, upholstery, a final inspection and booking your delivery slot.
Can I get it sooner?
Add Fast Track Production for £300 and your bed moves to the front of the build queue, with delivery within two weeks. Fast Track is available to mainland UK addresses only. If you need a bed within days, our Quick Ship range holds a small number of finished beds ready to go.
Can I change my order?
Yes. Change your size, base, fabric or feet free of charge within 24 hours of ordering. After that your fabric is cut and the build has started.
Will it fit up my stairs?
Your bed arrives in separate parts, the headboard, the base and the fittings, and our team assembles it in your room. The headboard is the largest single piece. If access is tight, send a photo of your stairs, landing and doorway to sales@thesleepco.com and we will check before we cut.
What if it is not right for me?
Every bed carries our 90-Night Comfort Exchange, made to order beds included. Because your bed is built for you, it cannot be returned for a refund unless it is faulty or not what you ordered. If it arrives faulty, we put it right at our cost.
How is it delivered?
By our own team, not a courier. Choose drop off or two man installation above and we will not ask again at checkout.
