The design
Madison
A bed dressed in a loose cover, not upholstered into it. The Madison is the only frame in the range you can undress and wash.
Please read before choosing the Madison. The cover is a man made fabric, cut and sewn to sit loosely over the frame. It is meant to look relaxed, so it creases, gathers at the corners and shows small imperfections that a tightly upholstered bed would hide. That is the character of this bed, not a fault. If you love a rustic, boho farmhouse look, this is the model for you. If you want crisp tailored lines, choose one of our fully upholstered beds instead.

Made in Siena. For the best result the Madison should ideally be made in our Siena fabric only. Siena suits the soft, lived in drape of a loose cover. We strongly recommend ordering Siena swatches before you commit.
The Madison is the most unusual bed we make. Instead of a fixed upholstered headboard, the design uses two large standalone pillow cushions that stand against the wall behind the mattress, soft and tactile, with no rigid frame inside. Instead of a fixed upholstered base, the base wears a loose fabric cover that drops to the floor in soft pleated folds. Both the cushions and the cover are removable, washable and replaceable.
This changes what owning an upholstered bed means. Most upholstered beds commit you to a colour for the life of the frame. The Madison doesn't. Add a second cover in another Siena shade, or refresh the look in five years without replacing the bed. Wash a cover that's been lived with rather than living with marks.
It also suits homes with children, dogs or anyone who actually uses their bedroom. Tea spills, paw prints, sun fade, all addressable.
The shape is country house relaxed. Stone walls, wooden beams, period cottages, barn conversions, anywhere the bed should look lived in rather than freshly upholstered.
Choose your base. Non storage for the simplest configuration, or manual or electric ottoman for everyday lift up storage underneath. The Madison isn't available as an adjustable platform, the loose cover construction doesn't translate to a moving base.
Crafted not assembled. Handmade to order in our British workshop by the same craftspeople who have supplied Britain's leading bed retailers for over two decades. Solid FSC beech frame inside the base. FSC-certified timbers. Slats 3cm apart, rated for our heaviest natural-fill mattresses. SATRA-certified ottoman lift tested to 250kg, OKIN motors on the powered variant. 15 year frame guarantee. Delivered and installed by our own team, not a courier.

The mattress rests directly on top of the upholstered side rails rather than dropping inside the frame. The rails sit hidden, so the bed reads as one clean unbroken upholstered line.

The base changes the height, the floor line and how much you can store. Non storage sits on legs. Every storage and adjustable base sits flush to the floor. Tap a base to choose it.

Your bed does not exist yet. That is the point.
Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting for you. Once you order, your frame is cut, upholstered and checked by hand in our British workshop, in your fabric and your size.

Getting it into your room
The headboard is the largest single piece.
- The side rails, base and platform are smaller parts, each packed separately, and our team assembles them in your room.
- If we cannot get your bed into the room on delivery day, you can cancel your order, so you can buy without the worry.

Questions about made to order
Why does it take five weeks?
Your bed is built after you order it, in your fabric and your size. The 25 working days cover cutting, framing, upholstery, a final inspection and booking your delivery slot.
Can I get it sooner?
Add Fast Track Production for £300 and your bed moves to the front of the build queue, with delivery within two weeks. Fast Track is available to mainland UK addresses only. If you need a bed within days, our Quick Ship range holds a small number of finished beds ready to go.
Can I change my order?
Yes. Change your size, base, fabric or feet free of charge within 24 hours of ordering. After that your fabric is cut and the build has started.
Will it fit up my stairs?
Your bed arrives in separate parts, the headboard, the base and the fittings, and our team assembles it in your room. The headboard is the largest single piece. If access is tight, send a photo of your stairs, landing and doorway to sales@thesleepco.com and we will check before we cut.
What if it is not right for me?
Every bed carries our 90-Night Comfort Exchange, made to order beds included. Because your bed is built for you, it cannot be returned for a refund unless it is faulty or not what you ordered. If it arrives faulty, we put it right at our cost.
How is it delivered?
By our own team, not a courier. Choose drop off or two man installation above and we will not ask again at checkout.
