The honest bit about lead times

Five weeks is not a delay. It is the product.

A bed that is ready tomorrow was made months ago, in a size and fabric somebody guessed at. Yours does not exist yet. Here is exactly what happens between your order and your delivery.

Week one

Your frame is cut

Solid FSC beech and birch ply, cut to your size on our own machines. Nothing is subcontracted.

Week two

Fabric is cut and sewn

Your fabric is laid out, matched and cut by hand. Piping is sewn to the panel, not bought in.

Weeks three and four

Upholstered and buttoned

Foam, fibre and fabric go on the frame by hand. Every button is pulled by one of our upholsterers.

Week five

Checked, wrapped, booked in

Inspected, photographed, then loaded onto our own van with a two hour delivery window.

Step two, explained properly

Four bases. One decision that changes the room.

The base changes the height, the floor line and how much you can store. Non storage sits on legs. Every storage and adjustable base sits flush to the floor.

Non storage, legs visible

Non storage

Included

Sits on turned beech legs, so you see floor underneath and the bed reads lighter in a small room.

  • Slatted platform
  • Legs in four finishes
  • Lightest to move
Manual ottoman, lid open

Manual ottoman

+ £400

Gas struts lift the whole platform. Flush to the floor, so no legs and no gap to vacuum under.

  • Fits two duvet sets plus cases
  • Lined storage cavity
  • Side or end opening
Electric ottoman, handset

Electric ottoman

+ £550

The same storage, lifted by motor on a handset. Chosen most by anyone who lifts with one hand or a bad back.

  • Wired handset
  • Manual release
  • Five year motor warranty
Adjustable platform, profiled

Adjustable platform

+ £750

Head and legs profile independently. Reading, watching, swollen ankles, reflux. Needs a mattress that bends.

  • Independent head and foot
  • Wireless handset
  • Compatible mattresses marked

Delivery and installation

Our van, our team, your bedroom

We do not hand your bed to a courier. The people who deliver it work for us and have carried a thousand of these upstairs.

Before

We call to book

When your bed is finished we ring you with dates, then confirm a two hour window the day before. If access is tight, tell us then.

On the day

Two people, room of choice

Delivered in parts so it fits through your doors, assembled where you want it, old bed taken away on request.

After

Packaging leaves with us

Every bit of cardboard and film goes back on the van for recycling. You are left with a made bed and a clean floor.

What people say after five weeks of waiting

The swatches sold it. The Oat looked grey on my laptop and warm in my bedroom.
Helen M.King, ottoman base, Infinity Oat
Two men, forty minutes, took the old divan and every scrap of packaging with them.
Raj P.Super King, electric ottoman, Velvet Bordeaux
Worth the wait. It is the only thing in the house I would buy twice.
Diane W.Double, non storage, Linen Chalk

Before you commit

The questions we get asked on the phone

Can I return a made to order bed?

Because your bed is cut and upholstered for you, it is not a stock item we can resell, so it is not covered by standard distance selling returns. That is why you can order swatches first, and why you can change your specification free within 48 hours of ordering. If a bed arrives faulty or not to specification, we put it right or replace it.

Why is the lead time five to six weeks?

Your frame is cut after you order. Nothing about this bed exists before your order lands. We give you the delivery week upfront rather than a vague estimate, and we ring you to book a two hour window once it passes inspection.

Will it fit up my stairs?

It arrives in parts, so most tight staircases are fine. The headboard is the largest single piece. Send a photo of your stairs, landing and doorway to sales@thesleepco.com and we will confirm before we cut anything.

What is the difference between the ottoman and the adjustable base?

The ottoman lifts the whole platform for storage underneath. The adjustable platform profiles at the head and legs so you can sit up, and it does not store anything. Both sit flush to the floor with no legs. An adjustable base needs a mattress that bends, and compatible mattresses are marked on their own pages.

Do I have to buy your mattress?

No. The bed takes a standard UK size mattress flush to the frame edge, so anything you already own in the right size will fit. If you are choosing an adjustable platform, check your mattress can profile first.

What does the 15 year warranty actually cover?

Fifteen years on the frame. Five years on upholstery, motors and electronics. Labour is covered for 24 months with unlimited callouts. It covers manufacturing faults, not accidental damage or wear from misuse.
