Thirty seconds, three questions

Which of the three should you be on?

Tension is the one decision that matters most, and getting it wrong is the most common reason people exchange a mattress. Answer these and we will point you at one.

01

How do you mostly sleep?

02

And your build?

03

What went wrong with the last one?

A guide, not a diagnosis. If you are between two tensions, take the softer one. It is far easier to firm a bed up than to soften one down.

The feel guide

Same range. Three surfaces.

Every Knightsbridge is hand layered with the same silk, cashgora and British wool, and finished with three rows of hand side stitching. What changes between the three is the spring count and the density of the wool pack. Compare them here rather than opening three tabs.

  • Soft Side sleepers and lighter builds who want the shoulder and hip to sink in. 9850 springs.
  • Medium Back and combination sleepers, and couples with different builds. The safest of the three. 11304 springs.
  • Firm Front sleepers, heavier builds, or anyone who wants the hips held level. 13450 springs.

Still undecided? The removable pillow top means you can change the surface later without replacing the mattress. Strapped on it is softer, off it is firmer.

Inside the mattress

What you are paying for, layer by layer

No polyester wadding. No synthetic foam in the upholstery. No recycled filler.

  1. 01 Removable pillow top 6cm of silk, cashgora and wool. Strapped on for a cushioned surface, taken off for a firmer feel. Rotate it, air it and replace it on its own.
  2. 02 Silk, cashgora and hand teased British wool Laid in by hand, layer by layer. Wool takes up moisture and lets it go again, which is why a wool bed does not sleep hot.
  3. 03 Cotton and real horsehair Cotton keeps air moving. Real horsehair, not a blend, is the springy structural fibre that stops the upholstery settling into a hollow.
  4. 04 50mm natural latex Under the fibres and over the springs. It pushes back as soon as you move, so the surface never feels slack.
  5. 05 Individually pocketed springs · 11304 Up to 13,450 at King. Each spring answers only to the part of you above it, so one person moving disturbs the other less.
  6. 06 Three rows of hand side stitching Anchors the fillings to the spring unit and squares the edge, so you can sleep right to the side.

Working day 1

Your mattress enters the book

Your order is scheduled to a maker with a build date. You can change anything within 24 hours of ordering.

During the build

Three days on the bench

Before you order

The questions our sales line actually gets

How deep is it?

The mattress is 28cm. The removable pillow top adds 6cm, so 34cm together. Check your fitted sheets and, if you have an ottoman, that the lid clears 34cm.

What is the difference between Soft, Medium and Firm?

The spring count and the weight of the wool pack. At King, Soft has 9,850 springs, Medium 11,304 and Firm 13,450. The fibres, the latex, the hand side stitching and the removable pillow top are the same across all three.

What if I choose the wrong tension?

Every mattress we make comes with our 90-Night Comfort Exchange. If the tension is not right for you, we will exchange it. Give it two or three weeks first, and remember you can also take the pillow top off for a firmer feel.

Can I take the pillow top off?

Yes. It straps on, and it is the only pillow top we make that comes off. On, the surface is cushioned. Off, it is firmer. It can be replaced on its own later.

What does delivery cost?

Free drop off to your front door as standard, in our own vans. Two man installation to the room of your choice is £120. Collection and recycling of your old mattress is £80 and can be added when you choose installation.

How long until it arrives?

13 working days. Every Knightsbridge is built to order by one craftsperson over three days, so there is no shelf stock to ship from.

Standard or Zip and Link?

Zip and Link is two halves that zip together into one mattress. It fits through tight stairwells, and each half can be a different tension. Available King and above.

Does it contain latex?

Yes, 50mm of natural latex, sealed inside under the fibres. If you have a diagnosed latex allergy, look at our Memory or Gel Hybrid ranges, which contain no latex.

How do I look after it?

Rotate it head to toe every three months, and rotate the pillow top too. Never flip it, because it is single sided. A slight settling impression in the first weeks is normal with natural fibres.

Can I order a size that is not listed?

Yes. Choose Custom Size and our team will confirm your measurements before the build starts.

What does the guarantee cover?

15 years on springs, stitching, borders and filling migration. Normal settlement of the fillings is not a fault, and damage from an unsupported base is not covered.
